Starting at Eggers Woods, 112th and Avenue E, two blocks from the Illinois, Indiana State Line

So overcast even the birds were grounded.

The north end of the Burnham Greenway is a bike path through neighborhoods.






1.2 mi - Bike path along the base of the Chicago Skyway at 105th St.

1.9 mi - Riding along the Chicago  Skyway into Calumet Park.

The marked bike trail through Calumet park is a relabeled sidewalk.  There were curbs at every parking lot entrance and street crossing.  WE switched to the street at about mi 3.3

2.8 mi - Saw to two of Chicago's finest on bike patrol.

3.3 mi - Trail left the park and routed back on city streets.  Not much traffic.



3.6 mi - Calumet River at Ewing Ave, looking towards Lake Michigan.  


5.0 mi - Bike Lanes start at 85th St.



6.2 mi - Bike lane along South Shore Drive near  76th St.

6.8 mi - Start the Lake Shore Bike Trail



7.3 mi - Lake Shore Bike Path at 67th St.

8.6 mi - It's funny how some places catch your attention.  I've always liked the view from Lake Shore Drive in the section  from  61st to 59th streets.  This is the first time I've had the opportunity to travel it outside of a car.

We decided to go downtown on the same day as the Lalapalooza Concert and the Tall Ships visit.   At several points there were so many cyclists and  pedestrians  on the bike path that we had to dismount and walk the bikes.   As we rode out from around the Aquarium we could hear the bands from Lalapalooza playing in Grant Park .

17,0  Pedestrian traffic on the Lake Shore Drive bridge over  the Chicago River was so heavy we had to walk our bikes.

The pier itself was closed to bicycles because of the crowds, but we could wander around looking at tall ships.
