This is my first ride with new lower granny gears I installed 22/34/44 chain rings to replace the stock 28/38/48 set, and look forward to easier pedaling uphill and against the wind.
This part of the GIT runs on city streets for a couple of miles, so we are using our new reflective slow moving vehicle signs.
New reflective sign for better visibility in traffic.
The trail starts on a bike path in a heavily wooded forest preserve and runs to the William W. Powers Conservation Area.
1.8 mi - View of the of William W. Powers Conservation Area on the shore of Wolf Lake.
1.8 mi - Nike Missile in William Powers Conservation Area.

Batteries of Nike missiles were positioned around Chicago as a part of our air defense during the height of the Cold War.

2.8 mi - The path and park road curves through the William W. Powers Recreation Area. At the end of the Recreation Area, it switches to city streets, including several miles on Avenue O/ Burnham Ave, a busy 4 lane street. We took the lane and ride with confidence. Motorists were courteous, giving us plenty of clearance while passing. I suspect the slow moving vehicle signs help.
We also rode over an 0 .8 mile bridge over a creek and an industrial area. The bridge slope was moderate, and I never had to drop into the new lower granny gears.
Another half mile on busy Sibley Boulevard got us back on the Burnham Greenway Bike Trail.
6.1 mi - Back on the Burnham Greenway trail, but now it's mostly prairie rather than wooded.
7.6 mi - looking North at 159th Street, River Oaks Drive
7.6 mi - Back to tree covered path riding south from 159th St. River Oaks Drive
A newly completed section of the Burnham Greenway Trail runs from River Oaks Drive (159th ST) all the way to Chicago Street, with a slight construction interruption at I80 underpass. I imagine this particular construction will be finished in a month or so.
At the K of C Park in Lansing, next to the new extension of the Burnham Greenway Trail.
Short but very pleasant trip.
Then, off to watch one of our grand kids play T-Ball
